Epson Questions & Answers

  • I have an Epson printer with chips on the cartridges. Can I use your refill kit?

Epson cartridges can be refilled, but the Intellidge chip must be reprogrammed. The recommended method for doing this is to use a resetting device like the one available here.

  • Can I use your refill kit on DuraBrite cartridges?

Refilling and sealing Durabrite cartridges require specific tools. These tools are included in some kits. If you need tools, please visit our website. You may consult our Compatibility by Cartridge webpage to find out if your specific cartridge is listed and what tools are required.

  • What is the difference between your ink and DuraBrite ink?

The fundamental difference between our ink and DuraBrite is our ink is dye-based and the DuraBrite ink is pigment based. Our ink is a general purpose ink which is specially formulated to provide consistent results on a wide range of popular inkjet printers.

  • Will Stratitec ink damage my DuraBrite printer?

Stratitec ink will not damage any printer using cartridges on our compatibility list when our refill instructions are followed carefully.

  • I have refilled my cartridge and nothing prints.

Once you refill the cartridge and place in back into the printer, it is always helpful to run a printhead cleaning cycle per the instructions in your printer instruction manual. If running the cleaning cycle 3 to 5 times does not improve your print results, the most likely cause is that there is an air bubble in the exit tube of the cartridge. It is also possible on sponge-based cartridges that the sponge inside the cartridge has dried up and the ink hasn't yet made it's way through the sponge to the exit port. In either case, it may be helpful to let the cartridge sit in the printer without printing for 24 hours. This will give the air bubble time to move to the top of the cartridge on it's own, or to let the ink wick it's way through the sponge.

  • The instructions in the manual require me to put clear tape over the ink supply holes at the base of the cartridge. When do I remove the tape?

Do not remove the tape from the bottom of the ink cartridge. This seal needs to stay on the cartridge and it is punctured when the cartridge is installed in the printer. This is the same installation process that is used for original Epson cartridges.

  • I have refilled my cartridge and now it is leaking.

Epson cartridges are less susceptible to overfilling than most any other. If your Epson cartridge is leaking from the outlet seal on the bottom of the cartridge, you should reseal it before placing it into the printer. To do this, you must turn it upside down, wipe the surface off with a dry lint free cloth, and place new tape on the bottom of the cartridge. If the cartridge is leaking from the refill hole, you may have the wrong size plug. Review the instructions for your specific cartridge to make sure that you are using the proper plug.
